Watching the Liverpool game last night was a bit surprised to hear Benfica's ground is called the Stadium of Light - you must be a bit annoyed about them stealing your name like that??

Yeah, a bit like you lot really, we both set out to pinch our stadium's name from clubs we look up to and aspire to be, we chose Benfica, you chose Exeter.
Sorry forgot your name is unique isn't it ? I mean no one else would want to play at the SportsDirect.Com Arena, would they ?

I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that the original St James Park, Newcastle was opened in 1892, the copycat version in Exeter followed 12 years later.... :P

I'm off to see the lads play Spurs right now, wish us luck !

Congratulations to Martin, Roger and all the other Newcastle supporters. Over the season Newcastle were obviously the best team in the league and deserved to be promoted.

I hope you all enjoy the moment but dont get too carried away ahead of next season back up with the big boys.

CONGRATULATIONS

Cheers

John

No congrats from me. The ineptitude of the chasing pack ensured that Newcastle won it at a canter. I do acknowledge that they are the best team in the Fizzy Pop.
They owe an awful lot to Mike Ashley for putting his hand in his pocket to make sure they didn't fold.
Bet he doesn't get any credit nor will the Cockney Mafia.
Gary

Boogaloo,

Thanks for your most gracious comments, much appreciated considering other comments.

Slightly off topic - how did you manage to lose to both Sunderland and Portsmouth in one week?????? Portsmouth I can understand as I used to live there and they are real football supporters, but the "Dark Place"?

I'll look out for Maureen on the 5th May, but still available Wednesday through Friday for a drinky in Tynemouth or Whitley, say next week.

Loving the the mackems new sponsor:

http://www.safc.com/news/20100413/tombola-to-become-club-sponsor_2256213_2022672

Tombola? Tombola?? Quite appropriate for a little tin-pot club I suppose.

A local company come good with a Chief Executive who supports the club and goes to the matches.
I haven't got a problem with it Martin as it seems they have paid a good sum of money on a two year deal. I mean Boylesports was hardly mindblowing was it ?
We could always be sponsored by a set up who rob money from people and pay their exec's for failure, I suppose.
And that's putting it mildly.
Gary
PS Martin, tin pot club, I must remember that one  I'll be having some fun with that.

Turns out the wonderful Tombola are actually an online bingo company.

Guess that's the only way the mackems will be getting a full house any time soon...

Ah the old attendance dig. Get some new material Martin.
Lest you forget, yours is a bigger city than our town, the hub of the North East. Newcastle have been able to attract fans from further afield, such as you, I accept that.
This is what happens when one club were playing the big clubs and the other Barnsley, Plymouth etc. Kids jumped on the bandwagon and stayed. Was it a bumpy ride on that bandwagon Martin.
Never mind, we are back where we belong now.

Sorry for the delay in posting boys.

Sunderland deserved to beat us as we were rubbish, it was as though they had run out of steam and were outplayed in every area. I thought the same applied for the Portsmouth game and felt after that game we may struggle to get many more points during the rest of the season. How wrong could I be. Since those games we have beaten Arsenal and Chelsea, next game is Man Ud at Old Trafford.

We are now 7 points behind Arsenal with a game hand, what are our chances of catching them and finishing 3rd?

Roger, have mailed you about a drink for this week.

Cheers

John

Martin

I can understand why you could think that but it wasn't the case, honest :D :D

I am pleased the Toon are back in the top flight with us big boys, the region needs it. Let just hope you arrive with a bit more humility than you had the last time you graced the top level of English football. You are not going to win everything in sight next year and all you should aim to do is finish above the bottom 3 so you have a base to build on for the year after. Thankfully you have a manager who learnt his trade with the best at Spurs so he will try to keep your feet firmly on the ground.

So lets not hear all this rubbish about the to names who will be joining you, play it safe first of all and learn to crawl before you can run.

Cheers

John

Well, confirmed as Champions - excellent achievement by Comrade Chris and the lads.

Hopefully gives us a bit of a head start on planning for next season - wonder if we'll manage not to make a complete hash of it this time??

I am now prepared to admit that we have been promoted (I said several weeks ago that I would not acknowledge promotion until we were 10 points clear with one game to go) and praise must go to Chris Hughton for the approach and attitude. I did not want him as Manager, but he has proved me and a lot of others wrong. He deserves his chance to Manage in the Premiership and I hope the club stick with him throughout next season, no matter what the season brings. Interesting the Southern Press are already circulating stories about hsi replacement, which sums them up, but the local press is right behing him.

Also good luck to Whitley Bay for the FA Vase Final on the 8th May - two years in a row will be a great achievement for them.

I think the Bay match is actually Sunday the 9th, same day as the last games in the Premiership.

Come on the Bay, first NE team to win at the new Wembley, lets make it 2 in a row.

Cheers

I admit I gave up hope of promotion the day Hughton was appointed permanent manager - I still think Ashley did it as a cheap option rather than any great inspirational insight, but I'm prepared to admit I was completely wrong about Comrade Chris.

So, if you can two can take a break from patting yourselves on the back, does Comrade Chris have the nous to make an impact in the Premier League ?

Discopants,

Well we will certainly finish above you and I think Champions League is a cert when you look at the teams trying to get fourth place. Indeed I can see even greater things such as the Premier League title and the Fa Cup.

Now going back to the pub to finish off!!!

I would have thought you would know better than to subscribe to media stereotypes.

I think Hughton has a chance certainly - he seems to have learned and improved a lot over the course of the season so if he can keep that up we could be OK.

I see you rolled over for them as expected. Meanwhile we were confirming our Championship victory by topping 100 points, sealing a run that has seen us lose just once in 33 games1 :clapping

Watched the mackem game yesterday, and it struck me again what a dirty team you've become - is this Agent Bruce's influence or just a natural symptom of having animals like Cattermole in the team?

Ours have actually been OK on the disciplinary front this season, while your mob are languishing at the bottom of the Fair Play league, miles worse than anyone else:

Martin, I'm not clued up when it comes to club finances. Yes he's put a lot of his money into the club to enable us to buy players and the money was put in in the form of shares not a loan.
What is in it for him ? I think he is a fan. I think he has caught the bug, that's all.
