 Post subject: Barton Arrested (again)!
PostPosted: Fri Dec 28, 2007 11:29 am
(Extract from the Telegraph.co.uk)

Joey Barton, the Newcastle United midfielder, was arrested on suspicion of assault yesterday, throwing the club into further turmoil. Barton was taken into custody by Merseyside Police following an alleged assault in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of yesterday.

Barton, a woman and another man were being held by police last night following what has been described as a drunken rampage in the player's home town which took place just hours after he had been forced to miss Newcastle's 1-0 defeat at lowly Wigan.

Joey Barton's off-the-field troubles continue Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce, who is already under intense pressure following a miserable run of form, is expected to haul the player over the coals following the allegations which have caused consternation at St James' Park.

The midfielder, who cost Newcastle £5.8 million when he moved from Manchester City last year, should have reported for training at Newcastle's Darsley Park training complex but was otherwise occupied as detectives waited to quiz him.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "Two men and a woman have been arrested by police following an assault on two men in Liverpool city centre in the early hours after an incident happened just after 5.30am, when two men suffered an assault in Church Street.

"Two men, aged 25 and 19, and a 27-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assault and taken to a police station on Merseyside, where they will be questioned."

A Newcastle United spokesman added: "The club is aware of an incident but it would be inappropriate to comment until we have further looked into the matter."

Barton is already facing a Crown Court trial on suspicion of assaulting former Manchester City colleague Ousmane Dabo.

IMO think he was a really bad buy for Newcastle & won't be surprised if they don't have some sort of clause in his contract that says if he's arrested or jailed, then they don't have to pay any compensation if/when they sack him

Has been refused bail apparently.

Man is an idiot - hope we sack him, and that we had the sense to put a clause in the contract covering events like this!

Well according to the Papers, Joey Barton as been detained fro a further 2 two weeks at her majestys pleasure

I personally think this is enough for Newcastle to tear up his contract, as this will only add to what he'll get when he goes to court later this year for assulting his team mate :!:

Not the sort of publicity Newcastle need & I hope Ashley, Mort & Big Sam see this too & get rid asap :!:

Pete, your info is out of date mate, he's been released on bail again & now they're tyring to see if he's allowed to play footie while on bail

I've written to the club saying they should get rid of him & get some decent players who want to play for the club & not just use it as a wage packet  doubt I'll get a reply from Mike Ashley himself tho..
