I use to fish when I was a lad, on the canals & in the lakes around my home town but gave it up many, many moons ago

So I was just sitting here wondering what I'd like to do during the long summer days, as I hate sunbathing, it not that I dislike the sun, I just hate sitting around doing nothing, so I thought about starting up fishing again & wondered if you could give me some help with regards to prices to pay for equipment, places to go & anything else I should know
