Renault admit race-fixing

Renault will not dispute the race-fix allegations surrounding the Singapore Grand Prix in 2008 and Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds have left the team.

Managing director Briatore and executive director of engineering Symonds depart ahead of the FIA World Motor Sport Council hearing next week.

The team are accused of conspiring with Nelson Piquet Junior to cause a crash and help team-mate Fernando Alonso

Also from Times Online

Flavio Briatore has resigned as the team principal of the Renault Formula One team after the alleged plan to fix last year’s Singapore Grand Prix.

Pat Symonds, the Renault director of engineering, has also resigned after being offered immunity by the FIA in return for full disclosure of what went on at the night race last September.

The announcement comes as the team confirmed they would not contest the allegations made by Nelson Piquet Jr, which claimed he had crashed his car on purpose at the Singapore Grand Prix last September in order to allow a safety car on which helped Fernando Alonso, his team-mate, win the race. Piquet Jr told the FIA, the sport's governing body, he was asked to drive his car into the barriers on the floodlit circuit by Briatore and Symonds. The Brazilian driver was sacked by Renault in July.

"The ING Renault F1 Team will not dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix," a Renault statement read. "It also wishes to state that its managing director, Flavio Briatore and its executive director of engineering, Pat Symonds, have left the team.

"Before attending the hearing before the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on 21 September 2009, the team will not make any further comment."

The case against Renault is due to be heard at an extraordinary meeting of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council in Paris on Monday.

Is this Formula One's worst day ever?

Sad Day - now the brown sticky stuff WILL hit the fan !!!!!!!!!!!
