Paphos People

Can anyone help with some information regarding a Paphos based Car hire firm that allows travel to Northern Cyprus. I have tried the search option for a previous thread but nothing came up.

No car hire companies in the Republic of Cyprus will allow their cars to be taken over the green line into the north as the insurance does not cover the car to be driven in what is known the world over as an ilegally occupied part of the country.

Yes there are some that allow you to take them to the TRNC...BUT they will tell you that there is no cover and if things go wrong it will be out of your pocket. On crossing at the border post you are obliged to take out 3rd party insurance.

I cannot recall which hire car companies do this as we use our own car.

If you look at the list of insurance rates on the sign at the border, you will see a specific rate for hire cars from the south. This indicates taking a hire car north is common. This is borne out by my last visit north when I saw lots of southern hire cars driving about.

My brother arrived at Larnaca airport and hired a car and drove across to the North. At the border he was asked to purchase the insurance and he produced the paperwork from his rental firm and DID NOT have to purchase any extra insurance. I think the hire company was Petsas but it was 3 years ago. It is definitely possible

En route he got lost in Nicosia and asked a lady driving a Mercedes for directions to the border, she spat at him and drove off
