I don't miss anything at the moment because I spend 75% of my time in the UK but if I were to leave permanently I'd miss:

Green fields and beautiful scenery
Crisp fresh air and possibly even the weather at times
Wearing fur coats and stockings
Cosy carpeted houses
Snuggling down under the duvet
Decent shops and choice in them
Decent roads to drive on
Choice of good restaurants and extensive menus
Libraries
Things to do
Being able to rely on the law and having recourse if something went wrong

Dare say there'd be things about Cyprus I'd miss too if I wasn't free to go there whenever I like

My family & friends. The Dorset countryside on a crisp blue skied winters morning. Shopping. If I think of anything else I shall add to it!.

I know what I wont miss, is a proper carer. At least in the UK you get someone who knows his job. My understanding is James has to go back to the UK for retraining. I am black and blue, cant even manage a pint anyone, due to his complete lack on knowledge. I was not going to say anything, but sometimes we must speak... :smilielol :smilielol :smilielol This happened on our last outing... :(

I miss my children, grandchildren, 4
brothers, 2 sisters , my little dog Paddy & my friends.
The seasons
Walking along the riverbank.
Lovely green fields.
Great shops.
Safer drivers.
Roads where the tarmac doesn't just finish on a bit of mud.
Clean streets (know this doesn't apply in all towns, but does in Huntingdon).
Police that treat you fairly even if you are not related to his/her uncle, brother, sister, cousin etc.
Companies that know the meaning of customer service
Where you can buy a property which automatically comes with its deeds, not sometime, if ever.
Trains.
Great choice of t.v.. broadband & telephone providers at reasonable prices.
What would I miss about Cyprus?

Friends, less crime on the streets, community charges and the sunshine.

Not me, the nice weather was my number 1 reason for moving here, I absolutely hate miserable, grey, cloudy, drizzly, cold, dark days.

Only things I really miss are friends and family (but they visit here anyway, which tends to mean more quality time) and watching live football.

There used to be a few other things, but the longer I'm here the more I seem to forget about them...

I'm not there full time but as time goes on the more I realise that I don't think I ever will be. I love the sunshine but it's not enough.
Unfortunately, for the moment, my life savings are stuck there for one reason or another.

I miss our daughter, grandchild, great grandchild, the rest of our families and dear friends.

I miss the rolling beautiful walking areas in Yorkshire, Shropshire, and the Lake District.

People who are for the majority of the time are polite and courteous, (we all have an off day)and understand what customer care truly is.

Drivers who know how to drive and haven't either got their finger up the nose, phone in an ear or eating, with the other arm hanging out the bloody window!

Waking up and knowing you are never going to get truly fresh air in your lungs.

The seasons particularly spring, and autumn.

What would I miss about Cyprus:

Friends who've we met whilst here

Some local people who are truly great and for epitomise everything that I came here for

Being able to speak with children of all nationalities and the parents don't think you are an oddball, and to hear children playing and laughing

The weather, even though this year has been too hot for me and OH I would miss it

Less crime

Well you know not long to go and I'm really looking forward to it , its been nearly 4 years since I went back to UK, I will miss my lovely Jackie who has to stay behind and miss the handful of people I can call real friends Ive made since I arrived here, what I wont miss are the people no scum who have knocked me for thousands of pounds, and the the vermin who make it their life's ambition to con people day in day out whether they be British or Cypriots, the crazy car drivers male or female and of course the suicidal taxi driver.miss Cyprus i don't think so.

I recognise not everyone has a good experience over here. But most do.

What do I miss about the UK? Absolutely nothing!

I can't agree with you on the 'most do' Josef even if many think they do.

How many of those 'most' would spend £5000 on a car in the UK if they found out someone else had a hire purchase agreement on it? In fact, it would be an illegal transaction.

How many of those same 'most' have spent their life savings, say £200,000 on a property that someone else owes money on and they don't legally own? As Denis O'Hare of CPAG says, no one in their right minds would buy property in Cyprus if they were aware of the true facts before they bought.

I sold my friends car for him when he returned to the UK, on which he had a bank loan - it stated quite clearly on the log book that a part owner was the bank, just as it says so on my log book until my car loan is paid off! I had to pay off the balance of the loan, and get a certificate from the bank which released the vehicle for sale! As far as I am aware from my dealings in these things, it states it all on the log book!

Josef - there's not much I miss actually. After my Mum died last year I decided that this was my home, and I really don't need to keep visiting the UK - cos that's what I am now, a visitor. I am going back for 6 days in December, to see my great nephews and neices before Christmas, and also to do some shopping, and I am going back next April cos it's my brothers 65th Birthday. So I suppose they're what I miss - my small family and shopping! I have started my shopping list already  , but it's really cos I need a whole new wardrobe now :bounce :bounce - so George at Asda and Florence and Fred at Tesco - watch out, I'm on my way !! It's clothes for winter I need, to keep me warm.

I love my life here - and if I'm perfectly honest, it's a far better life than I would have had in the UK - my best friend emigrated to Australia just before I came here, so the only friendship pull I have is from Oz, and yes, I'm hoping to go back next year (if we can sell Mums bungalow  )

That part of my post was meant to illustrate the point that we don't buy things that legally belong to someone else without ensuring the loan is settled yet vast numbers of us have bought properties and paid in full when developers have mortgages on them and legally we cannot ever own them unless those mortgages are paid off.

The point of the post is that I miss a legal system that, for the most part, can be relied upon.

That'll be why you chose it as a holiday destination then and went looking at property for sale while you were there. :?

And you didn't??? I know I came here on holiday and liked the place, and thought I could live here - so came back again and ended up buying. How did you come to buy here then - surely you came before you bought

Yes but we were talking about what you miss about the UK. Sean or Heidi don't miss anything, think the only good thing it has going for it are the planes out of it and yet chose to holiday there and look at property for sale while there.
Am I wrong in thinking they originate from the UK?
If I'd thought that about Cyprus I wouldn't have bought or keep coming back.

Perhaps that's because I don't swallow all the bull**** that some people spout and remember what they've said previously when they totally contradict it.

Perhaps we should all be totally 2 faced and disagree/agree with things just because our little friends have said it?

I have noticed of late the barbed posts aimed at Cuddly, now, I don't know why this is the case. For my part, I find her posts interesting, thought provoking and entertaining. Many of the threads she starts have many more hits than lots of others.

Like many other forums, we have our fair share of "tightrope walkers" on this forum, never controversial, always post in agreement with the "in crowd" at the time, if you want a touchy feely, non controversial forum I guess you can have it but, it will be pretty boring too.

I will now get my coat.

:clapping

I have noticed of late the barbed posts aimed at Cuddly, now, I don't know why this is the case but I find her posts interesting, thought provoking and entertaining.

I would agree, if someone has a valid argument or contributes sensibly to a debate then I am all for it. The bit where it falls apart is when it starts to get personal or acerbic, that's when the poster has lost. And then there are some of us that just like to lighten the atmosphere :celebrate

I do miss it - occasionally so much it's almost painful - but then I remember just how few days there were like this!
