I decided (after 13 years) it was time to upgrade the HiFi on my 2002 Pajero.

It had a radio/cassette (cassette never used!) and a 4-CD auto-changer. There was no input for a phone and the CD player wouldn't play MP3 files...

I chose a cheap Android head unit and it is quite amazing! Fitting took a couple of days and I'm extremely pleased with it. I now have: -

64Gbytes of MP3 files 'on-line', pretty much all of my music collection.
An excellent radio - better than the original.
Bluetooth hands free phone with music streaming
A reversing camera.
Satnag
Loads of Android apps

For the Satnag I downloaded iGo from the google Play store. it has an excellent Cyprus map. I know most of us down't need satnag here as it is such a small island but there are occasions when it is handy - when my nephew comes over next month with his family for instance.

iGo is significantly better than the Garmin map - it knows the Cyprus speed limits and is very detailed... it tells you that 'You are near Kouklia' for instance when you drive past on the motorway and at the end of the motorway (assuming you are not 'navigating' to somewhere) it tells you where the exits lead to - Kato Paphos, Konia, etc.

Overall, very impressed and very pleased with it. I have now ordered a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System that will integrate with the unit too.

I have not used iGo. We have Navmii on our phones. It is a free app and is excellent. It even has our road named on it, which is more than the local street maps do!

Yes, iGO surprised me too...

I wanted to set 'Home' and instead of just saying that the current position is 'Home' it asked for a street address...

I thought, "oh noes, fallen at the first hurdle!" but it knew our street! Garmin doesn't...

Also, iGO doesn't (pointlessly) attempt to pronounce street names like Garmin. It just says "turn right in 250m" and not "turn right onto archbishopmakarsjdfdfdksfhhfios" or some such!

Mrs. CyprusGrump doesn't have the 'sense of direction' gene - we'd never get anywhere...

She just has the 'you're driving too fast' gene...

UPDATE:

iGO is free but you have to pay for the European map (€29.99)...

I knew I wanted it as I had the trial on my phone but it forces you to have a FREE 7 day trial...

After the trial, I ordered the map BUT Google refused payment on my card (that I had used on Google Play just a few months ago)...

BUGGER!

New HiFi thing but no map...

In the end, called Google UK (Mumbai) and spoke to 'Alex G' who promised to resolve the issue...

He did!

Very impressed with google service and support!
