For those that are still interested in the sinking UK, I was amazed to watch Boris on the news tonight saying that he is opening the doors to the people from Hong Kong due to the issues there.

He stated in the Commons we will honour agreement with the people that they can come here to live and work, then after 5 years they apply for full residency status.

Hell we are in a mess, thousands of jobs going to the wall, money will be tight for those who will lose their jobs, now he wants to bring in up to 3 million, is he off his trolley, who is going to house them and what jobs are available to them, are they going to get benefits.

British Hong Kong was a colony and British Dependent Territory of the United Kingdom from 1841 to 1997, apart from a brief period under Japanese occupation from 1941 to 1945.The colonial period began with the occupation of Hong Kong Island in 1841 during the First Opium War. The island was ceded by Qing dynasty in the aftermath of the war in 1842 and established as a Crown colony in 1843.

This is a political decision as the UK provided them with British Passports & offerred them protection when the British Government surrendered Hong Kong to the Chinese. There was an understanding of this between the British & Chinese governments during this process, which it seems has now been broken by this latest move to control the population by the Chinese.

In the time of the british colonial era, we would simply have sent a flotilla of gunboats supported by marines & thrown the Chinese out, but the UK armed forces today are hardly in a position of strength at the moment, so threatening action on the Chinese would be an act of suicide IMHO.

Deja vu; 'Windrush' scenario possibly in the making?
