A firefighter who lost his life in an Edinburgh pub blaze will be remembered a a star-studded charity football match.

Hearts are to stage a special one-off game to raise cash for the Fire Fighters Charity, in honour of Ewan Williamson.

Mr Williamson died in July while tackling a blaze at Dalry's Balmoral pub alongside his colleagues from Tollcross Fire Station.

More than 20 tenants were saved from the tenement above the bar, but Mr Williamson lost his life after the floor of the pub collapsed.

Now, a team of hearts legends are preparing to return to pitch raise funds and to campaign for Mr Williamson to be given a posthumous Queen's Gallantry Medal.

Alan McLaren is among the former Jambos taking part. He told STV News: "We're not heroes, these guys put their lives on the line. Ewan went to work one day and didn't come back because he put his own life ahead of others.

"These people need to be recognised and hopefully this game can help gain some recognition for Ewan and his family"

The former defender will be joined by Henry Smith, John Robertson and Gary Locke among other for the match on Sunday 15 November.

The Hearts Legends team have raised £22,000 for worthwhile causes in the past two years.

Also many thanks to Hearts for lying down to the mighty St Johnstone on saturday, whilst the modest Arabs humbled the Septic..
