I have nearly 500 photographs that I took on a recent cruise .Also several others of the same MB size Each photo is between 5 & 7 Mb in JPEG format. The total MB for all pictures will be in the region of 3300 MB. I would like to save them to disc. Is there any way I can reduce the MB of each photograph without losing to much quality in the photographs before I save them to disc? Maybe I should not be concerned about this large total MB size to be saved? I know you experts will cover this also. |

yes it can be done , I have a link to site that does them all in one go, but I am not at home at the moment to send it to you .. |

I think the programme Neil is thinking of is called pixresizer - I have used this in the past, and the beauty of if it is that you can keep all your photos at the original size (if you want) as when you resize them you save them into a new file - excellent programme for mass resizing.

The only really way to reduce the MB size, as you have them in one of the best formats, is resizing them. Technically, resizing them will lose quality. However, it's sounds like you have very high quality photos and massive pixel counts. The photos my current camera take are about the same size as your photos. My photos are 4320 by 3240 (found Properties). So even if you are showing them on top end TV screen or projector you can reduce them to about 35% and it shouldn't make any difference. I would strongly recommend you keep a copy before messing round with the photos. If you're planning on doing any other adjustments to the photos, particularly cropping do it before the resizing. |

There is a very good resizer in Power toys for windows, you just select an image, right click and select resizer, choose the size you want and it will make a new image along side the original, very useful for sending pics in emails, select 600x800. Just Google Power toys for Windows. Geoff. |

If you've bought a decent camera and want to take pictures of the size you quoted rather than have the camera reduce the size, it seems a pity to compromise the quality afterwards to save a bit of disk space. Why not buy an external hard drive and keep the pictures on that? They are fairly cheap and will give you a more versatile solution and plenty of capacity for more pictures. You will have high speed access to them on your computer or any other computer you plug into. Pete |
