Post subject: | Boat Fishing |
Greetings! I will be visiting Paphos on holiday for 3 weeks from 13th September and would like to get out boat fishing with anyone who owns a boat and enjoys fishing. Happy to help with fuel costs. Having read some forum reports on local charter fishing trips I would much prefer a few trips on private boats. I can return the favour in England. I have a boat in Newhaven Marina, Sussex and I run a charter boat fishing club through http://www.worldseafishing.com. If you can take me let me know what gear to bring. |

You probably wont find a private boat owner here that goes fishing as you require a licence to do so over here and I am given to understand that they are not readily given as it is competition for the local fishermen. The Boat shop on the coast road have a fishing boat that goes out into deeper water for tuna and you get to keep your catch. Try looking at their web site for information or phone Lee on 00 357 99098596 (mobile). Ignore stupidity,it is the sun you know! |

I most certainly do have a sense of humour but Mr Peter was asking for help so maybe your response would put him off asking advice on here in the future. Anyway I'm sure he started off his fishing adventure years ago with a jam jar & a fishing net but by the sound of things has gone way past that now Maggi |

Everyone having a bit of fun and no one telling you what you need ,, Sorry .. Yes there are fishing trips that you can go in from the harbour , just check out the booths alone the sea front.. I know you can go Tuna fishing , but you have to go a long way out , I think about an hour or so .. Sea bream and sea bass are out there , but dont expect any whoppers , as the whole region has been over fished .. |

I did answer your question. Unless you find a boat owner who has a license to fish from it ( as rare as hens teeth) then you have to go with one of the fishing trips. There are trips that make you buy the fish you catch but there is the one I gave you the number for that does not charge,in fact they will buy the tuna you catch if that is what you want to do. |

Neil wrote: Surley you dont have to get a license to go out fishing in your own boat ?? Yes Neil, you do.We know,we have a boat and mentioned that we would be going out with a little boat rod and a cool box just for fun and were told in no uncertain terms that we would be arrested if we did that."You have to get a license and they probably won't give you one as the local fishermen will sink your boat" was the actual advice we were given. |

hummer wrote: Call Colin http://www.charterfishingcyprus.com lots of tuna at the moment and great boat Some say on the forum which I quoted that it is the ONLY boat to use for serious fishing but then there are also some very critical reports. It seems that charter boat fishing in Cyprus is more for tourists than serious anglers which is why I would prefer going out with private boats! |

Seems like my simple question has kept some of you busy! Is that trying to keep out of the sunshine at mid-day? We had 3" of rain one afternoon last week - the roads were like rivers and water came up through the drain covers! It would be good to get posts from serious sea anglers and boating people. I have 6 weeks booked already looking around and thinking about moving to Cyprus. The bowls clubs have been very helpful and we are looking forward to meeting people. Pity about lack of anglers and boat people but it was worth a try and has given some amusement. |

With all that water you can fish from your lounge!! Fishing here is not as big as it once was, many people now go to the dams but once you network out here a little you will find a boat. |

I found this on the web! Google "Sea Fishing Cyprus" Saltwater/Sea Fishing The sea around Cyprus is home to more than 250 species of fish, including snapper, amberjack and tuna. Boats can be rented at fishing shelters and stations. Sea fishing licences No licence is needed for: •sea angling •fishing with vertical lines •trolling However, a licence is required for: •spear fishing without diving equipment requires a spearfishing licence (illegal in swimming areas marked with red buoys) •fishing with long-lines and traps •fishing at night with spear guns •any kind of commercial fishing Note: Spearfishing with any breathing device, such as aqualungs or scuba, is prohibited. Licence holders must adhere to the restrictions, which regulate the equipment that may be used and the allowed days to fish and, in certain cases, the allowable catches for each fishing outing. Licences are available from the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR): •Head Office of Department of Fisheries and Marine Research At: Aiolou 13, CY 1416 Nicosia Tel: 22 807 868 / 22 783 032 Fax: 22 775 955 |

Well done Mr.Peter for finding this information. Sea angling is from the beach so no license but I will check again with the guy who stores our boat and show him this and ask if we can use a boat rod without a license. I can sell you our boat on a trailer if you like and then you can fish all day if it is indeed license free. |

Google sea fishing in Cyprus for the regulations! As I cant find anyone to take me out on their boat can anyone tell me about shore fishing this time of year? Species, hook sizes, methods, bait, rigs ? Anyone Paphos way who can show me? |
