Paphos People

Heard that E&S Supermarket had closed their doors (last weekend). Has anyone else heard of this or indeed been to the supermarket since the weekend?

Yes E&S closed all their stores, and as for the rumour - isn't that what Paphos thrives on?

I think the E&S demise is sad,in my opinion what happened apart from the economy was the Cypriots fell out of love with them since the arrival of Lidl and Alpha Mega,they couldn`t raise their game

E&S gone - good riddance. Expensive, rubbish goods and rubbish service.

The stores always looked so scruffy and uninviting we never found a reason to walk through their doors. In hard economic times like this it's survival of the fittest. Lidl and Alpha Mega stores look clean, modern, bright, fresh, inviting. In Alpha Mega's case particularly, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. No need to go anywhere else.

Hi Lloyd,it is true they did lose the plot but 10 years ago they were well supported by the Cypriots,ex pats were more Paps and orphanides and Philippos of course,the scene changed and they didn`t,they had a good name for helping the poor and charities in those days.

I cannot comment on the smell, but remember it well from Parkheid.

Havent been to E&S for sometime now, theres been no need. All the stores now need to raise their game even more, which is why so many smaller and boutique ones are closing.

I don't know how true this is but I was told the other day that 'Poplife' are moving into the E&S store up the Polis Road!!

If anyone has checked their till receipt from Carrefour, you will see that it has the E&S logo on it. I guess they've moved up in the world...

Always found the staff really helpful. the girl on the till told me to redeem my points before the closed, despite her & others not having another job to go to. Never shopped there regularly but it was where we always did our family shop when we first came here on holiday so its sad to see it go.

I have it on good authority (no, really) that Alfa Mega are to take up the main E&S premises.

Josef are the 'main premises' the Polis Rd ones or the ones near Cosmic Bowling? I assume the latter as someone else has posted Smart are moving to the Polis Rd ones.

Either way the parking will be better than at the current store!

If true Josef that would be a good thing there are too many empty shops as it is,Alpha M are not cheap but are competitive in key areas.

Another Paphos rumour is that Poplife are moving in to one of the empty E&S buildings.

Hi Rob,a close examination of forum rumours actually happening would suggest that substantial odds would need to be on offer before hard cash could be risked

Dont be silly, they are moving into the existing Alfa Mega store when they take over the Carrefour store when they move to the New Mall which will free up the current M&S for a betting shop which will then leave room for a cabaret to be financed by Tescos and Asda in a joint venture consolidating their European operations as their UK business is about to go bust and some Cypriot from a Paphos Village is going to open a chain of chip shops across the UK...

The one by Cosmic. Pop Life may well want the Polis Rd one as they have had multiple stores before and this would increase their coverage of the town.
