Post subject:  No buses

Have read in Cyprus mail that many buses have been taken off the road due to being unsafe. There was a case where the engine caught fire on a school bus , so many buses now will have an automatic fire extinguisher system . So have the buses often caught fire and it been ignored ? I suspect the problem is more long term poor servicing as opposed to bad design . I dont know the situation but i would guess the commercial vehicle mot is too lax . I feel the extinguisher system whilst good is mearly a band aid to cover a bigger problem . Aircraft operators cut corners on servicing to save money so im sure the bus operators do too. What do you think ?

The rules and laws on aircraft servicing and maintenance are very strict. Why do you say that they cut corners.

Effsie i had heard the result of a few aircrashes were attributed to the use of non oem replacement parts or extending service intervals beyond that specified by the manufacturer. It would be interesting to know what caused the fire on the s hool bus recently !

These buses are being fitted with an engine fire detection system, and extinguishers no mention of the engine fires being caused by cutting corners but I'm sure the conspiracy theorists and keyboard warriors are having a field day!

Dollydaydream the reason i commented about an engine fire on a bus is there was an article in the Cyprus mail a few days ago stating a school bus in nicosia the engine caught fire . Still im sure your right that all the buses are 100% road worthy

I looked up on Cyprus Mail dated 4th december " buses pulled off the streets , no bus service in Paphos. The article explains a school bus caught on fire in nicosia . Unfortunately in this world the act of cutting overheads to increase profit is not conspiriacy theory but all to common in most walks of life

The issue was not so much airlines cutting corners, but a supplier selling substandard parts.

The parts i am sure were competitively priced against oem parts and so the company with the service contract were able to offer a good price !
