The Cyprus Green Party has held a demonstration at Lower Paphos Harbour against the government's policy on golf courses.

The party expressed its strong disapproval about the vast quantity of water allocated for irrigation of golf courses while most of the population have had their water supplies cut to just a few hours a day.

The Green Party said that golf courses not only destroy the local environment and landscape but are wasting water at a time when Cyprus is facing enormous problems from lack of water resources.

At the same time, the party urged the government to immediately suspend the procedures to grant permits for new golf courses, and to restrict water supply to existing golf resorts.
