PAPHOS, CYPRUS, FEBRUARY 17, 2009: Tigheco Media Limited, a Paphos based company is pleased to announce the foundation of a new Rugby Union Football Club in Paphos. The team will be called, “Pegeia Panthers”, and will be based in Pegeia, Paphos.

The Panthers are now seeking new players for the coming season commencing in autumn 2009. The Patron of the club will be Dr Nicos Mantas M.D. the renowned Cypriot specialist Plastic Surgeon. Mr Neofytos Akoyrsiotis (Mayor of Pegeia) and Mr Charalambos Aplas (Community Head, Pegeia Municipality) will be Honorary Presidents of the Club. The first Chairman of the Club will be Mr Philip Aplas. Medical support will be with the generous support of the doctors of St. George’s Private Hospital, Paphos.

The aim of the club is to raise the general standard of local rugby and enhance the game in Cyprus by playing representative games in the local league and by playing against foreign teams abroad. Playing and non-playing members are needed in the following sections: Coaching Staff, Veteran, Active, Ladies and Youths.

Do you think they will want a rugby development officer? I know of a really good one. But being his Mum I am a tad biased.

I doubt if they would ever pay him enough to tempt him away from his Mecca. Twickenham.

Where will be their home ground, and will they be in the Cyprus league?

AND, will they be updating their web site to show when games are postponed or cancelled? I'm getting fed up with a drive out to a certain stadium to watch a certain team to find I am the only one there.

I think it would be better if the Tigers re-located to Peyai. We have a first-class stadium and facilities which could be shared with our wonderful football team. At the moment watching Tigers' games is not very good as the supporters are only allowed on two sides of the pitch and the two shelters cannot accommodate the number attending.

I don't think that Peyia has enough youngsters for a team, most of us residents are at the top end of the age range and I for one left my boots iat Ruislip RFC 5 years ago!
